3 Warning Symptoms Of Thyroid Cancer You Should Get Checked Out

Everyone in Australia is well aware of the risks of skin cancer, but have you ever even considered the fact that thyroid cancer is a real possibility too? Thyroid cancer issues are on the rise, which is why it's important that you know what to look for to ensure early diagnosis and treatment. While some thyroid nodules may be absolutely nothing, some could end up being cancerous. Make sure you visit your doctor if you notice any of the following warning signs:

You Notice A New Lump In Your Neck

While the thyroid gland can be found at the front of your neck, any new lumps or bumps that you haven't noticed before and that haven't gone away in a few weeks should be investigated further. This bump may be benign, but you want to be on the safe side, so make sure you get it checked out. If the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes, then the lump could even be on the side and not in the front. You will need to visit your GP at the start; they may prescribe a series of tests, including scans and biopsies to determine the exact problem.

You Are Unable To Swallow Foods And Drinks Properly

You may have taken swallowing for granted before, but are you suddenly finding it extremely hard to swallow anything without flinching? This could be another sign that something is not right. Keep in mind that swallowing difficulties could also be attributed to viruses like the flu or a cold, so keep an eye on this issue. Pain and sensitivity in the neck area could also be warning symptoms to watch out for. If these issues persist after a few weeks, make sure you get checked out for thyroid cancer.

Your Voice Changes And You're Having Trouble Speaking

Since your voice box is next to the thyroid, any issues with the gland could result in changes to your tone, or you may have difficulty getting some words out. Of course, you might want to consider the fact that you may just have a sore throat or a cough and cold too. If you notice this problem persisting for an extended period without any explanation, then you'll want to get checked by a doctor for the possibility of thyroid cancer.

Thyroid cancer is usually easily treatable and curable—provided you get to it on time by paying attention to these warning symptoms.
